How to prepare for Satyanarayan Puja?

Hindus usually perform prayers and rituals through worship performed in temples or homes. Satyanarayan Puja is performed at home, and the main aim is to obtain good omen and blessings from the Lord. Whenever Hindus worship Lord Vishnu, one of the trinity Hindu deities, they also perform Satyanarayana Puja at the same time. The name Satyanarayana refers to the Lord who lived in Andhra Pradesh before 400 AD; He was the God of Hindus and an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The Satyanarayana Puja has five distinct parts with the placement of idols representing a phase of this ritual.

Preparation for Satyanarayan Swami Puja

Before the puja, it is very important to collect all the necessary items required for the puja. This is the first stage of preparation. As per the list, purchase all the items and keep it in the room where the puja is to be performed.

On the day of worship, spread a clean, new cloth in a clean room on top of a square and high platform. This would serve the purpose of the altar. Rain some holy rice on the cloth and place the holy kalash on it. Now, you have to wrap another piece of cloth over that Kalash, and then install the image of Vishnu on that cloth.

Gathering around the altar, the devotees should be seated in the lotus position before the worship begins. Light all the lamps before offering prayers to the Lord. Before the actual worship begins, offer your poojas to Lord Vishnu, Ganesha and Shiva. Offer your prayers to Goddess Parvati and Lakshmi. Arrange several flower garlands and place them on the images of the deities.

Place turmeric pods that represent Lord Shiva and Ganesha, Goddess Parvati and Lakshmi and Lord Indra, on the altar on the north side of the Kalash. Now, you worship the nine planets and the Sun by placing some betel nuts with betel nuts on them. Lastly, you have to place those goddesses on the level of the betel nut to represent the seven gods and Indra, the god of the universe.

Place the turmeric pods that represent Gods Shiva and Ganesha, the goddesses Parvati and Lakshmi and the Lord Indra, right on the altar towards the north of kalash. Now, you have to worship the nine planets and the sun by placing some betel leaves with areca nuts on them. Finally, you have to lay those areca nuts on the betel levels to represent the seven deities and Lord Indra of the eight quarters of the universe.
